Well hello there fellow Brides and Grooms to be. Hope the planning is going smoothly and we haven’t got a “wedache”.
So for those of you who may not know me I’m Oisin aka “The Guy Behind The Wand”, I am on hand as your resident hair, beauty, skin care and tanning guru. But also I’m in your shoes, I’m a groom to be, well one of 2 grooms lol. My partner and I got engaged at Christmas and now we get to experience our wedding from the other end of the wand.
As some would say I can be a little bit extra (I’ve no idea why they would think that) so its no surprise my wedding planning journey would be a pinterest inspired, fairy light twinkling, cloud filled ballroom affair. Well we’ve decided we’re going to let you come along on this exciting road trip.
Like any other B2B or G2G my wedding checklist consisted of all the regulars, Wedding Date, Venue, Ceremony, Wedding party etc.
When it came to the date I had 2 weekends in mind, the first weekend in September (schools return from summer break and 99% of the time we have amazing weather) or December 31st 2019 (I love the idea of ringing in 2020 with a 1920’s styled party). After much deliberation it was a September wedding we settled on. Now with the date in mind it was off to view venues. Both my partner and I are from opposite sides of the Country so we were open to all Counties. The First Venue we viewed was Ballinacurra House in Kinsale and oh my was it breath taking. Venue #2 was Fota Resort in Cork, an absolutely beautiful venue (where my work wife Louse “the girl behind the wand” married her hubby) but for me it was missing something. On we went to Killarney for a weekend and to celebrate our engagement, this time in my all time favourite hotel The Brehon. I adore The Brehon, for its friendly staff, amazing food and beautiful spa, yet we both felt Killarney may be too far for my Mayo gang to travel from. “Light Bulb Moment” Why not Mayo? Its landscapes are so magical I can just see the wedding photos now :). When it came to having the wedding in Mayo I wanted to bring that Killarney vibe with us, so we Checked into the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport.
This is where we got down to business! Louise and myself were in Mayo for Ultimate Weddings Live and decided we’d stay in the Castlecourt on the second night to experience the atmosphere. Pleasantly greeted by friendly staff and shown to our room, we just loved the modern bedrooms (and the stocked mini fridge lol). Dinner was just amazing and we could not fault it one bit, from the food to the service everything was just impeccable. On the morning of our check out we met with Vincent the Wedding coordinator for the Castlecourt. After showing us around the hotel and the Spectacular Ballroom, I knew this was it! This was were we would celebrate our marriage with our family and friends.
Its one of those situations were you just know its right. Standing in the ballroom I could picture our friends sitting around the tables laughing and joking, My family on the dance floor
all night long, and myself and himself just smiling as we toast the rest of our lives together.
The deal was done, The date was locked in, We signed on the dotted line! Now the countdown has begun September 6th 2019 can’t come quick enough for us.
But as for now I’ve planning to do, Wedding fairs to attend and more importantly blogs to write to keep you all updated.
Until next time all, Sip Bubbles and happy planning.
